CHAPTER ONE

1.1.   INTRODUCTION

A primary school information aggregation system is a software that educational institutions use to collect and store data of pupils or students. The common data collected from pupils include their names, age, gender and their parents’/guardian’s information. Information aggregation system is very convenient and fast. Primary school information aggregation system has three purposes

1. To aid school proprietors, proprietress, teachers, bursar and general administrative arm of schools to effectively manage students and other stakeholders of the school.

2. To keep accurate track record of all pupils’ and teachers’ information as well as give detailed information on pupils’ accounts and fees status.

3. The need to have a computerized system that will meet the growing needs of our primary schools.

 School information aggregation system is very useful for educational institute to collect and store data of pupils or students, save the time consumed in the manual collection and storage of data. The effective use of School information aggregation system in any educational institute ease better development in their strategy for collecting storing and accessing data in less time

1.2.   STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The first and foremost problem faced by Bibiire Nursery and Primary School, Agaloke Estate, Apata Ibadan during and after taking records of pupils is lack of security. There is lack of security during record keeping and this makes the data of pupils vulnerable to less concerned third party. The system, Primary School Information and Aggregation System will aid in securing the records of pupils during and after the collection of data from pupils.          Another problem faced is inconsistency of data. Since records can easily get misplaced and also tampered with due to the current method adopted in the collection and recording of pupils’ data, this may lead to unavailability for future use. The system, Primary School Information Aggregation System will help in having consistency of data and records as there will restriction to misplacement and tampering of the records and data.

Lastly, there is improper storage of records. Due to the current method adopted for the storage of data, there are threats by pests and rodents since records are kept in a cabinet. The new system, Primary School Information Aggregation System will aid in the proper storage of records since records will be kept electronically. This will be made possible with the help of Visual Studio 2012 and Microsoft Access.

1.3.   JUSTIFICATION OF THE STUDY 

However, the collection of data from pupils is often treated with consciousness. This application software is associated to every part of people's daily life, and so does information aggregation. Just like other application system, information aggregation system develops very fast, from simple stand-alone system to computer based system, and now some application system.

1.4.   AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

This project is aimed at developing an information aggregation system for new and existing pupils, a case study of Bibiire Nursery and Primary School, Agaloke Estate, Apata Ibadan

Objectives include;

·         To design and implement a secured primary school information aggregation system for primary school for registration and admission of students.

·          To design and implement a school management system that will keep track of student information such as school fees and results.

·          To design and implement a primary school information aggregation system       that will be user friendly for school proprietors to effectively manage resources of the school.

1.5.   SCOPE OF THE STUDY

This project focusses on collection and storing of data related to pupil taking into consideration their names, age, gender.

1.6.   RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

The method adopted in collecting data for this research work is mainly by

1.       Oral interviews with executives and officials of the school, this serve as main source of input into the design system. Questions asked during the interview include: -

·         Which method of record keeping is adopted by the school?

·         Is there any attack on the stored records of pupils

·         Are the data collected easily accessible after record?

2.       Obtaining relevant data from the existing manual system.

The software used for the project is Visual Studio 2012, where the interactive tools were used for the development of the project. The tools include: textbox, labels, picture box, image list, data grid etc.; incorporated together for the development of property management application usable by the case study to carry out their day to day transaction. The database used is Microsoft Access Database.

1.8.   DEFINITION OF TERMS

Primary School Information Aggregation System for Primary Schools: An information system for managing pupils and teachers’ resources in a school.

Tracking System: It is used for the observing of persons or objects and supplying a timely ordered sequence of respective location data to a model e.g. capable to serve for depicting the motion on a display capability.

Proprietor: A sole owner of a primary school.

Proprietress: A female proprietor.

Pupils: A person who is taught by another, especially a schoolchild or student in relation to a teacher.

Pupils Information: Is a pupil-level data collection system that allows the department to collect and analyze more accurate and comprehensive information.

Class: A group of pupils/students in a regularly scheduled meeting with a teacher.

Record: An item of information put into a temporary or permanent physical medium.

Software: Is any set of machine readable instructions that directs a computer’s processor to perform specific operations task.

System: Is a collection of elements or components that are organized for a common purpose.

Management: Is the process of getting activities completed, efficiently and effectively with and through other people.

Programmer: Is an individual that composes instructions for computer systems to refer to when performing a given action.
