CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1  Background of the Study

Education is an important component of life because it equips us with all that is needed to make our dreams come true. One of the most promising paradigms for education is E-Learning. It is commonly referred to the intentional use of networked information and communications technology (ICT) in teaching and learning. Some other terms are also used to describe this mode of teaching and learning including online learning, virtual learning, distributed learning, network and web-based learning. Since the last decade there is a growing interest in E-Learning from several directions. Distance education programs see it as a logical extension of their distance education activities. Residential campus-based educational organizations as well see E-Learning as a way of improving access to their programs and also as a way of tapping into growing niche markets. The growth of E-Learning is directly related to the increasingaccess to ICT, as well as its decreasing cost. The capacity of ICT to support multimediaresource-based learning and teaching is also relevant to the growing interest in E-Learning.

Growing numbers of teachers are increasingly using ICT to support their teaching. Educational organizations see advantages in making their programs accessible via a range of distributed locations, including on campus, home and other community learning or resource centers. Thanks to ICT, the dream of learning anywhere and at any time has become true. Despite this level of interest in E-Learning, it has many constraints and limitations. The main obstruction to the growth of E-Learning is the lack of access to the necessary technology infrastructure, for without it there can be no E-learning. Poor or insufficient technology infrastructure can cause more damage than good to teachers, students and the learning experience. While the costs of the hardware and software are falling, often there are other costs that have not been factored into the deployment of E-Learning ventures. The most important of these include the costs of infrastructure support and its maintenance and the appropriate training of staff to enable them to make the most of the technology.

Private Cloud Computing is a new paradigm that provides efficient network login to an appropriate pool of computing resources which can be provided and released with just nominal assiduity and service provider’s reciprocity. The resources can be network servers, applications, platforms, infrastructure segments and services. Cloud computing delivers servicesautonomously based on demand and provides sufficient network access, data resourceenvironment and effectual flexibility. This technology is used for more efficient and costeffective computing by centralizing storage, memory, computing capacity of PC’s and servers. With the tremendous advantages of private cloud computing, we expect this technology to revolutionize the field of E-Learning education. Private cloud computing applications provide flexibility for all educational universities, schools and institutions. The cloud platform in institutions’ campuses provides effective infrastructure and deployment model for their dynamic demands. The benefits of cloud computing can support education institutions to resolve some of the common challenges such as cost reduction, quick and effective communication, security, privacy, flexibility and accessibility.

Private cloud is often presented as being the solution for all your computing issues. It promises benefits such as cost savings, energy savings, rapid deployment and customer empowerment.

 

1.2  Aim and Objectives of the Study

The aim of this project work is to adopt E-learning in private cloud computing is to reduces overall costs of institutes, which includes the cost of travel, lodging, meals, tutors salaries, production and distribution of the course materials.

The objective is to centralized data storage where losing a cloud client is no longer a major incident while themain part of the applications and data is stored into the cloud so a new client can be connected very fast.

1.3  Statement of Problem

The challenges of making the ICT based learning components fit the needs of its users, have led to the search for the most reasonable ways for their design and delivery within the cloud based settings. The cloud based components possess many progressive features including better adaptability and mobility, as well as full scale interactivity, free network access, a unified structure among others.So, the modeling and analysis of their design and deployment in view of the current tendencies of modern advance of the cloud based software and available learning experience have come to the fore. Among the priority issues there are those concerning the existing approaches and models for electronic educational resources delivery within the different cloud based service models: the cloud based learning components elaboration, assessment and testing.

 

1.4  Significance of the Study

This study is primarily aimed at increasing efficiency in E-Learning, this research work will help the users in maintaining data. This system will grants opportunity for ubiquitous computing.

Also the knowledge that would be obtained from this research will provides a low cost solution to academicinstructions for their resources facility students, also this research work will also be of helpthe students to create a repositoryof information that stays with them and keepsgrowing as long as the student facts need it.

 

1.5  Definition of Terms

i.                   Cloud Computing: Internet based computing, whereby shared computing resources, software and information are provided on demand via the internet.

ii.                 Private: Confined to particular persons, groups or providing privacy or concerning things deeply private and personal.

iii.              Browser: A program used to view web pages on the internet.

iv.              E-learning: The cognitive process of acquiring skill or knowledge via the internet.

v.                 Resource: A source of aids or support that may be drawn upon when needed.

vi.              Technology: The discipline dealing with the art or science of applying scientific knowledge to practical problems.

vii.            Bandwidth: A data transmission rate, the maximum amount of information {bits/seconds} that can be transmittedalong a channel.

viii.         Developing Country: A country that is poor and whose citizens are mostly agricultural workers but that wants to become more advanced socially and economically.

ix.              Benefits: Something that aids or promotes well-being.

x.                 Challenges: A demanding or stimulating stimulation.

xi.              Paradigms: The general accepted perspective of a particular discipline at a given time.

xii.            Assiduity: Great and constant diligence and attention
